The throat chakra acts as a door. The key words for this center are expression and communication. The center is situated in the neck, also including the area of the shoulders, the mouth, and the ears. Its related color is blue, and its related sense is hearing.
When we have a healthy throat chakra, we are able to express our true voice. We can speak up and express our truth. We let our creativity flow.
We are not only good communicators but also good listeners.
In this chakra we find all the emotions that we didn’t express.
This center becomes blocked in many people because we are told to shut up just too often, especially when kids. It can also be blocked when we don’t follow our true passion, but instead follow the expectations and desires of society, and when we are unable to express our own ideas. Habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol, which directly affects the throat, can also block this center
When this centre is imbalanced, we can experience things such as:
The connection between the throat chakra and the voice is particularly strong because, of course, the voice production process happens in this energy center.
A strong, healthy throat chakra provides the necessary conditions for a strong and healthy voice. The voice production is quite a delicate process that requires the neck to be free of tensions in order to emit a healthy sound. Tension in this area not only affects the sound and range greatly but also the duration of your singing life! Singers that tense their neck too much while singing, usually start losing range and power at a rather young age. Not to mention the soreness in the throat while or after singing!
Also, a blocked throat chakra will affect your capacity of expression. In singing, we use the voice to communicate emotions. A healthy throat chakra allows you to do this with clarity, and also to be genuine in your voice. This is the type of singer that can connect with an audience.
Sometimes we get crazy trying to imitate other singers, or we just assume that some people are “born with the gift”, and some others aren’t. While in fact if we are willing to look deep inside and work on our energy imbalances, we would discover that we all have a unique voice that is worth expressing and hearing. We all have the right to expression, and no one should be told that they just “don’t have the gift”. The voice imprints our life history, and we can change our story along with our voice.
I have worked with lots of adult students that expressed that when they were kids they were told by family, school teachers or even choir directors, that they just had a “bad voice”. Just like that – the throat chakra can be blocked, as soon as the kids believe what they are told. It not only affects their voice forever if they don’t do something about it, but it also affects in some ways their whole expression, which interferes with so many aspects of their life.
We need a balanced throat chakra in order to let our emotions out, in singing and in life. That is a right that we must embrace.
I have dedicated all my life to explore, research, and teach voice and singing from a holistic approach.
Our voice is the result of the connection between our mind, body, and our energy, and knowing this can help you to not only meet your voice and singing goals but also heal your life.
At Holistic Voice Academy, you can get online holistic singing programs that will teach you how to TRULY free your voice.
